MEET THE FAMILY

Welcome to the heart of our inaugural Labour of Love® renovation project. The Long family represents strength, generational perseverance, and an unbreakable commitment to creating a loving home. Their Compton residence, first purchased in the 1950s, has been a cornerstone for four generations. Today, we are honored to help restore this home so it can continue to serve the family for generations to come.

Below, we invite you to learn more about the remarkable individuals who make up the Long family legacy.

LOUISE M. HUNT

Originally from Hot Springs, Arkansas, Ms. Hunt moved to Southern California during the Great Migration in search of opportunity and a better future for her family. In the mid-1950s, she purchased the Compton home that has remained an anchor and cherished part of her family’s story for generations.

In the late 1980s, she brought her young grandson, Robert, into her home after the loss of his mother, embodying the very definition of unconditional love. Ms. Hunt dedicated her life to protecting and uplifting her family, ensuring that anyone who needed a safe place to stay always had one. Ms. Hunt passed away in August 2020, but her legacy, rooted in generosity and resilience, continues to guide the Long family every day.

ROBERT LONG, SR.

The only child of Ms. Hunt, Mr. Long stepped into stewardship of the family home in the 1980s, assuming ownership and financial responsibility to keep the property in the family. He worked nearly two decades for the Orange County Transportation Authority, serving in various bus maintenance roles.

A proud Compton native, Mr. Long enjoys classic cars and quality time with loved ones. At 84 years old, his dream is simple yet profound: to watch his grandson earn his pilot’s license and one day pick him up in an airplane. He remains devoted to carrying forward his mother’s legacy: keeping a roof over his family’s head and encouraging each generation to pursue their dreams.

ROBERT LONG

For more than two decades, Robert has captured the soul of the City of Compton through photography. As the owner of Final Image, he has photographed weddings, family reunions, neighborhood festivals, and countless local community events.

A resident of the City of Compton for over 30 years, Robert is more than a photographer. He is a visual historian whose images have appeared in The Wave Newspaper, City Pride Magazine, El Camino Magazine, and The Hub City Legend.

Robert’s dream is to elevate his photography business to new heights, creating opportunities not only for his family but for the community he has called home for decades.

JACOB LONG

Jacob, a bright and imaginative pre-teen, loves video games, dinosaurs, and Legos. However, his biggest passion is aviation. His first flight at age six may have brought tears, but it also sparked a dream.

Since then, Jacob has overcome his fears and committed himself to becoming a pilot. Today, he actively pursues his aviation journey by attending youth flight programs, participating in live flight sessions, and visiting local aviation fairs. Jacob represents the next generation of the Long family, full of curiosity, courage, and big dreams.

WHY THIS FAMILY?

The Long family embodies everything Labour of Love® stands for: legacy, perseverance, and the importance of having a safe place to call home. Their journey reflects the storied history of the City of Compton and the deep roots that many families in our communities continue to cultivate.

By restoring their home, we honor not just a structure, but a family lineage built on love, sacrifice, and generational strength.
